WSU Alumni Tower & Memorial Brick

January 2010

Wright State University has agreed to give the Actives an insurance policy for the yearly cost of $3050.  Payments to WSU will be made to cover the cost of the insurance policy.

The active Chapter Incorporation has been reissued and Terry Lewis is now the agent, it expires 2 Nov 2014.

The Alumni Association is now incorporated, it expires 4 Nov 2014. [link]

The meeting with Dr. Dan Abrahamowicz, PhD went well today. WSU is holding to the fact that the chapter needs some coverage.  They produced a document signed by both the previous Chapter president and chapter advisor agreeing to getting the insurance and setting the deadline that just expired. This document was signed over a year ago. But, WSU does appear willing to bend on type of coverage to maybe reduce the cost. It is still on table and they are willing to talk to the Alumni about fixing the issue.

Here we go, yet again! This has been ongoing since 2008!

Due to a lack of $1M insurance ($5200/year), the Fraternity is suspended from WSU!

In brief...Fall Rush went thru, but they cannot gather on campus or hold any events in the BPO name...like Pumpkin Hunt.  Beta Phi Omega is dead on WSU.

Hello Fellow Brothers:

This is Zack DeBaltzo, current president of Beta Phi, over the past few months I have been in good contact with Wright State's Greek advisor Dino Martinez. Though many of you will not know who Dino is, you may all recognize his "type". Always stirring up controversy with the only local chapter at WSU.

I have been given the opportunity to intern this summer in the Student Activities office, with a couple other Greeks, who get to organize the upcoming events for the next school year. One of my tasks this summer was to gather updated insurance policies from the other 15 chapters and to find a provider for our fraternity.

I do believe insurance is always a good idea, however, not an affordable option for our smaller local chapter of only 24 members. I have been given a leeway for the upcoming Pumpkin Hunt, only event insurance will need to be purchased from what I am told. But within the school year we will be "required" to carry group coverage.

I am in contact with a couple of insurance providers; Kirklin insurance, also MJ insurance. Both major players when it comes down to providing coverage for Greek organizations.

This message is going out to you all to make you more aware of our current situation and possibly to gather support against our administration. If anyone has ideas of how to afford insurance, or how to avoid our chapter not being recognized by Wright State, I am available via email.

Fraternally,

Zack DeBaltzo - email

Pumpkin Hunt & WSU (Dickstein) Harassment of Active Chapter

Well - if you haven't heard by now you must be living under a rock. Our favorite WSU person is causing trouble for the active chapter again. Dickstein caused a fuss about the fraternity sponsoring the Pumpkin Hunt that the frat pulled their letters at the last minute to not "even appear" to be involved. Of course - the event still went on. I do not have all of the details. I was not able to attend as my commitment took me late and by the time I drove up from Cincy it would have been pointless. Perhaps someone who attended or an active can fill us all in on how it went.

We will once again be seeking legal action against WSU and Dickstein. Anyone who is interested in donating some funds to this most righteous cause, please send an email to Cooper, Raissa or me. If you wanna commit an amount up front, please state how much. If you wanna be contacted once we're ready for action - that's cool too. So far I have heard from the following people who will contribute:

Brian Swinderman
Hans Jagow
Mark Cooper
David Ballenger
Rocky Belcher
Mark Clark
Paul Ryan

We are also asking that, should you feel so moved, please consider the following action:

Call WSU and POLITELY lodge a formal complaint against harassment by Dickstein. You can call:

Office of the President: 937-775-2312
Alumni Relations: 937-775-2620

Chip reported he called the President's office & spoke with a very pleasant woman by the name of Susan. She was very pleasant as he outlined my displeasure with Mr. Dickstein's continued behavior of harassment of the active chapter of Beta Phi Omega.

At the Alumni office he was able to leave a voice mail for a Ms. Cherie Ritter. You may also contact Ms. Ritter via email at cherie.ritter@wright.edu

I encourage you to take a few moments out of your day to take a stroll down memory lane and remind the current university administration how fondly you remember your days at Wright State. And advise them that you are dismayed at the conduct of what you can only assume is a rogue employee in Mr. Dickstein.

If you talk to someone at the Alumni Office, you might mention that you & your organization are so distressed about this that you will talk to all WSU alumni you know and ask them to stop making donations to the university & the alumni organizations.
